What's It To You?

My name is Brent Byerly and this is my personal Sci Fi modeling site. I have been crafting wooden spaceship models for several years now and until this blog could only display them on a bookshelf. Thanks to the wonders of the web they may finally have a wider audience. Please feel free to comment (keep it family friendly please).

I Wonder What This Ship Would Look Like

In the episode "Friday's Child" (ST:TOS), we finally get to see an actual Klingon ship. Not much in the way of imagination. I know that production values were far less than they are today and a budget had to be met. I kind of like the simplicity of the design because things like this make my wheels begin to turn. I few years ago I began to wonder what the ship would look like closeup so I went to the saw and began to render.

This is a screen cap from the episode showing the Klingon scout. In the remastered version, it has been replaced by a cruiser (this doesn't fit with it's supposed capabilities in dialogue however).

The ship itself, in the screen cap above, reminds me of an arrowhead. So that is where I began.

I decided that the shape that we see on screen is actually a side view of the right nacelle (2 nacelled ship). This meant that the bulk of the vessel would have to be in between and fairly sleek to accommodate the design.

Here's a shot of the ship with it's first coatings of paint.

Getting closer.
